Our School, Our Focus
Parents and visitors often refer to Yandina State School as “a small country school” - a description we are proud to accept as it reflects the caring nature, welcoming atmosphere and closeness in our school community. Although the school is small, we are able to provide all facilities and educational services that students require to gain a complete education.
All our efforts focus on three important aspects of each child’s life -
Friendship, Family and Future.
Friendship by developing interpersonal relationships and social responsibilities,
Family by working closely our families,
Future by helping our students to grow into active and informed citizens who can make a worthy contribution to, and
benefit from, our future society.
Friendship:
We believe that if our students are to become lifelong learners, it is imperative that they are safe and supported. Close friendships are fostered through the emphasis of recognition and rewards for positive and successful behaviours. At Yandina State School, we expect all members of the school community to:
· act responsibly
· respect each other and themselves, and
· resolve conflicts peacefully
Our Responsible Behaviour Plan sets out, for our school community, the strategies that we implement to ensure our school continues to be a happy and safe place for productive learners.
Family:
Our families are our school community’s future. We believe that the participation of families in school life is vital if our students are to progress successfully through their formative years of learning. Therefore, our school works closely with families by providing:
· A guidance officer for advise and counselling
· A welcoming atmosphere for students and their families
· A behaviour advisory teacher for behavioural support and advice
· A Chaplain for pastoral care
· Contacts with other professionals outside our school
· Out of school hours care
· A playgroup for young children and their parents
· A caring school community
Future:
Preparing our students for their future as life long learners not only involves a meaningful and effective curriculum that addresses students’ academic aspirations, but also requires the school to ensure our students are socially and emotionally prepared for the wider world.
Through their formative years, our school provides opportunities for a firm foundation to be laid so that our students have a secure pathway as they progress towards their secondary education:
· Introduction to our school through a playgroup for toddlers – a pre prep experience
· Prep Year program to ensure a great start in Year One
· Social development throughout the primary years
· A relevant and interesting curriculum from prep to Year 7
· Development of individual skills and interests
· Year Seven Into Eight transition programs for our senior students.
