With a strong emphasis on community at Yandina State School, our P-6 sports carnivals are fun, colourful and always full of friendly competition and team spirit, with student, staff and parent involvement. Our Coolum, Maroochy, and Ninderry House groups rival each year for the Victory and House Team Spirit Awards in our Annual Cross Country, Athletics and Swimming carnivals.
Cross Country Carnival
All students participate in the school cross country event held on school grounds, with students running 1, 2 or 3 km through our school course depending on their age. Students learn and develop fitness and cross-country endurance skills and get to know the track in Physical Education lessons and a before school lap competition prior to the carnival.
Athletics Carnival
Our Prep–8 year-old students part-take in sprint races and a number of novelty and modified athletics activities focusing on running, jumping and throwing, that they have practised during weekly PE lessons.
The 9-12 year old students compete in a variety of Track and Field events. Students trial and train during PE lessons and pre-carnival training sessions during Term 2, with the Athletics days providing opportunities for both participation and serious competitors.
Swimming Carnival
Year 4 to 6 students travel to the Eumundi Aquatic Centre for the annual school swimming carnival. Students nominate prior to the day for events of different distance and ability level.
School Representative selection
Involvement in our school sporting carnivals throughout the year also serve as representative trials for 10-12 year old students to represent our school at District Swimming Cross Country and Athletics (Track & Field) events. It is from individual performance in these carnivals that our Yandina representative athletes have the opportunity to gain further selection to attend the next level of competition as a District Representative at Regional Trials.
