SPARKS Robotics Club were kept busy in Term 2 by preparing and competing in RoboRave Australia, held at USC Stadium. The students worked in teams of two or three and competed in several different events on the day.

These events included:

· A-MAZE-ing: Design, build, & program a robot that can follow a raised wooden maze without falling off. Completing the maze before the time limit adds Bonus Points to your score.

· Lego Sumo: Design, build, and program an autonomous robot that can search for and push an opponent sumo robot off an elevated wrestling ring.

· Line Follow: Design, build, and program a line following robot that can (in three minutes time) follow a black line on a white background to a tower and deliver at least one (1) ball and then return to its starting point. Then, in the remaining time, return to the tower (as many times as needed) to deliver a set number (not over, not under) of balls as per your division requirements.

With over 250 teams registered (over 700 competitors) RoboRave was definitely the biggest competition any of our team had attended. They all did a wonderful job and showed great perseverance and resilience when bots and event programs didn’t always run to plan!

A big congratulations goes out to Team MadDog who won the a-MAZE-ing challenge, with a special mention to Team SonicSumo, who just missed out on finals.

A special mention also goes to Team Beez who made the finals of Line Follow.

We could not be prouder of how everyone preformed and the great sportsmanship they displayed to the many other teams at this event.

Thank you so much Ms. Ange and Ms. Blood for all of your support and guidance - without you, we wouldn't be here! We would also like to give a special thank-you Ms. Amanda, Ms. Robyn and Ms. Lyn who put their hand up to volunteer with RoboRave on the day, and Mrs Geppert who stayed and supported everyone for the whole event. Your support is very much appreciated!
